Subscription retention keeps your recurring revenue recurring. It has three parts, each switched on separately from Retention in the dashboard sidebar. All three are part of the Pro plan; the reports stay readable on every plan.

Failed payment recovery

Retries failed renewals on day 1, 3, 5 and 7 and emails the subscriber a secure link to update their card.

Cancellation save offers

When a subscriber cancels, ask why and offer a pause or a discount first.

Intro pricing

Charge less for the first periods, then invite loyal monthly subscribers to switch to yearly.

Failed payment recovery

When a renewal fails, Pocketsflow:
  1. Records it and lists the subscription under Retention → Failed payments → At risk, with the amount, the failure reason and the next retry.
  2. Emails the subscriber a secure link to their subscriber portal. The link expires after 14 days and only lets them update their card or retry the payment — it can’t cancel anything. A reminder goes out on day 5.
  3. Retries the payment on day 1, 3, 5 and 7 after the first failure. The payment processor also retries on its own schedule; when its next attempt is within a day, that attempt counts as the step and we don’t add another. A payment is never attempted twice at once, and a payment that was already collected is never charged again.
  4. Applies your final action one day after the last retry: cancel the subscription, pause it (the unpaid renewal is voided, the subscriber keeps access) or keep it as it is.
When the subscriber pays — from the email, from the portal’s Retry payment now, or on a retry — the subscription is marked Recovered and counts towards Recovered revenue.

Cancellation save offers

Turn on save offers per subscription (Retention → Save offers → Edit). When a subscriber clicks Cancel subscription in their portal they:
  1. Pick a reason — too expensive, not using it enough, missing something, ran into problems, switching, or something else — and can add a note.
  2. See your offers — a pause of up to 1–3 months (no charges, access kept, billing restarts automatically) and/or X% off their next N payments. The offer that answers their reason comes first.
  3. Confirm — accept an offer, or cancel. Canceling is always one click away.
Every flow is recorded: the Saved subscriptions report shows how many subscribers you kept, the revenue kept per period, and why people cancel.
A subscriber can be saved once every 180 days. The discount offer is only shown when it can be applied to that subscriber’s own billing plan; the pause offer is always available.

Intro pricing

Per subscription (Retention → Intro pricing → Edit):
  • Intro price — for example 1.00 for the first month, then your regular price. New subscribers check out at the intro price; after the intro payments the regular price applies automatically. An intro price can’t be combined with a free trial, and a discount code at checkout replaces it.
  • Switch-to-yearly offer (monthly subscriptions) — after a number of paid months, the subscriber gets one email and sees an offer in their portal to switch to yearly billing at a discount. The yearly plan starts when the month they already paid for ends, so they’re never charged twice for the same period.

Webhooks and API

Retention events are delivered to your webhooks: subscription.payment_failed, subscription.recovered and subscription.saved. Everything on this page is also available through the Subscription retention API and the MCP server.
