# Memberships and communities

> Give your subscribers members-only posts, a community and your courses while they stay subscribed.

A **membership** turns a subscription into a members area on your store:
posts only members can read, a community where they talk to each other and
to you, and the products they get while they stay subscribed.

<Note>
  Memberships are part of the **Pro** plan and above. You can read your
  memberships, moderate the community, archive and delete on any plan;
  creating, editing and posting need Pro.
</Note>

## Set it up

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create the subscription offer">
    In **Subscriptions**, create what members pay: for example $12/month and
            $120/year. They are normal subscription offers, so checkout, receipts and
    the subscriber portal work as usual.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create the membership">
    Go to **Memberships → New membership**, name it, tick the offers that make
    someone a member, and tick the products (courses, downloads, links)
    members can open. Choose whether the community is on and whether members
    get an email for each new post.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Share the members area">
    Your members area lives at `https://<your-subdomain>.pocketsflow.com/members/<slug>`.
    Anyone who isn't a member sees what the membership includes and a
    **Join** button for each offer.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Who is a member

Anyone with a live subscription to one of the membership's offers (active,
in a free trial, in a payment retry window, or paused) is a member. It is
checked on **every request**: when a subscription is canceled, expires or is
refunded, the members area closes for that person at once. Their saved
sign-in link opens the join page again.

## How members sign in

The members area runs on your storefront, which never asks buyers for a
password. A member enters the email they subscribed with and gets a sign-in
link by email (valid 30 days on that browser). Every "new post" email also
carries a sign-in link. The answer is the same whether or not the email is a
member, so nobody can find out who subscribes.

## Posts

Write in **Memberships → your membership → Posts**. Posts support headings,
lists, quotes, links, code and images. Pin a post to keep it at the top of
the feed. When you publish, members get one email with the title, a short
excerpt and a **Read the post** button. Members who turned post emails off,
unsubscribed from your emails or bounced are skipped, and nobody gets the same
post twice.

## Community

Members start threads, reply and react (like, love, insightful). Threads and
replies are plain text: any HTML is removed. To keep things calm, each member
can post at most 5 threads, 30 replies and 200 reactions an hour, and posting
the same text twice in a row is refused.

You moderate from the **Community** tab:

* **Pin** a thread to the top, **lock** it to stop new replies, **hide** it
  (members no longer see it, you still do) or **delete** it.
* **Hide** or **delete** a single reply.
* **Ban** an author. A banned member keeps your posts and included products
  while subscribed, but can't read or write in the community. You can also
  hide everything they wrote in one go. Lift a ban from the **Members** tab.

## Members

The **Members** tab lists everyone who subscribed to the membership's
offers, with their status (**Active** while a subscription is live,
**Ended** after), their subscription status, when they joined and whether
they get post emails. Filter by active, ended or banned, or search by email
or name.

## If your plan changes

If your plan no longer includes memberships, members keep reading: posts,
the community and included products stay open (read-only), and you can still
moderate. New posts, new threads and replies wait until you upgrade again.
Archiving a membership closes its members area; deleting it removes its
posts and community. Neither cancels anyone's subscription.

## For developers

Everything here is in the public API and the MCP server: see
[Memberships API](/api-reference/memberships). The `member.joined` and
`member.left` webhooks tell your app when someone becomes or stops being a
member.
