# Buy more, save more

> Give a bigger discount when buyers add more products to one checkout, like 2 items 10% off and 3 items 20% off.

Buy more, save more is a store-wide tiered discount. When one checkout holds
several of your products, the best tier the buyer reaches comes off the whole
cart, and the checkout tells them how close the next tier is: **"Add 1 more
item to save 20%"**.

<Note>
  Buy more, save more is part of the **Growth** plan and above.
</Note>

<Steps>
  <Step title="Set your tiers">
    Open **Discounts**. In **Buy more, save more**, set up to 5 tiers, for
    example **2 or more items → 10% off** and **3 or more → 20% off**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Turn it on and save">
    Switch it on and press **Save**. The chips under the tiers show what
    buyers will see.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Give buyers something to add">
    A checkout gets more items through [order bumps](/selling/upsells-and-bundles)
    (and a downsell taken after declining one). The hint sits above them.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## How the discount is worked out

1. **Each product's own price comes first**: its list or variant price, any
   per-product pricing (early-bird, flash sale) and a discount code on the
   main product.
2. **Then the tier comes off the cart subtotal.** One checkout line is one
   item: the main product, each order bump, a downsell. A bundle counts as
   one item. Pay-what-you-want products count toward the tier but are never
   discounted.
3. **Then the rest**: a payment plan splits the discounted total, the
   payment processor adds tax, and the platform fee is taken on the final
   amount.

The discount is applied by Pocketsflow when the payment is created, never
by the buyer's browser. The order shows it (`tieredDiscount`), the receipt
lists it, and `order.completed` carries it.

## Discount codes

By default a tier does **not** stack with a discount code: a buyer who uses a
code gets the code. Tick **Also apply when a discount code is used** to give
both. A code that doesn't change the price (a flash sale or fair price was
already better, so the code wasn't used) doesn't block the tier.

## Rules

* Item counts are whole numbers from 2 to 20, each tier different.
* Discounts are whole percentages from 1 to 90.
* A tier with more items must give a bigger discount.
* Below Growth, tiers stop applying at checkout. Your tiers are kept.

## For developers

Read and change your tiers with your API key (`GET`, `PUT`, `DELETE
/tiered-discounts`) or the `get_tiered_discounts`, `update_tiered_discounts`
and `delete_tiered_discounts` MCP tools. See
[Buy more, save more API](/api-reference/endpoints#buy-more-save-more).
