# Taxes & invoices

> How tax is handled on Pocketsflow orders, what appears on invoices, and where you and your buyers find the documents.

Taxes and invoices matter for both compliance and customer trust. This guide
explains what Pocketsflow does automatically, what remains your
responsibility, and where the documents live.

## How tax is handled

<Note>
  Set up tax handling in **Settings → Taxes** before selling. Pocketsflow
  calculates tax at checkout using your selected option, business address, and
  tax registrations. We do not provide tax advice; consult a qualified tax
  professional about your obligations.
</Note>

## Choose how tax is handled

When you first open the dashboard, choose one of these options:

* **We collect and remit tax.** Eligible tax is calculated, collected, and
  remitted automatically.
* **We collect tax, I remit it.** Tax is calculated at checkout and included
  in your payout. You are responsible for registrations, returns, and
  remittance.
* **I'll handle tax myself.** No tax is calculated, collected, or displayed at
  checkout. You are responsible for calculating, collecting, and remitting any
  applicable tax.

In **Settings → Taxes**, keep your business address current, add registration
numbers where applicable, and choose whether your displayed prices include tax
or tax is added at checkout. These choices affect how tax is handled for future
sales; they do not replace professional tax advice.

In practice:

* The **price you set** is your revenue (the order's *amount before tax* /
  subtotal). Where the provider adds tax, the buyer's **total (gross)** is the
  subtotal **plus** the collected tax.
* Any tax collected is **not your income** — it's remitted onward. Your payouts
  and fees are calculated from the subtotal, not the gross.
* Whether tax is added, and at what rate, depends on the **buyer's country**,
  your **business address and registrations**, and the rules that apply at
  purchase time.

Each order stores the tax detail so it's always auditable:

| Field                 | Meaning                                          |
| --------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ |
| Amount before tax | The subtotal — your taxable revenue |
| Tax amount | Tax the provider collected (gross − subtotal) |
| Tax rate | The percentage applied |
| Country / state / ZIP | The buyer's billing location that drove the rate |

<Warning>
  You remain responsible for your own tax obligations. Whether and how much you
  owe depends on your country and circumstances — consult a tax advisor and your
  platform/payment agreements. If you need to build additional tax into your
  pricing, set your prices accordingly.
</Warning>

## Invoices & receipts for buyers

After a successful purchase, the buyer automatically receives:

* A **purchase confirmation** email with an order reference (the last characters
  of the order ID) and a link to their product.
* An **invoice** email for paid orders, itemizing the product, tax percentage,
  and total, along with your seller details.

Point buyers to:

* Their **email confirmation and invoice** after purchase.
* The **buyer portal / manage-purchases** link in that email, where they can
  review past orders.

For the full buyer experience, see [Invoices &
receipts](/buyers/invoices-and-receipts).

### Resending a receipt

If a buyer loses their email, open the order under [Orders &
customers](/operations/orders-and-customers) and use **Resend receipt** to send
the confirmation again to the buyer's email.

## Invoices & exports for creators

The invoice emailed to the buyer is generated from **your** account details, so
keep them current under [Account & security](/operations/account-and-security)
and **Settings → Taxes**:

* Seller **name** and **contact email**.
* **Address** (city, state, ZIP, country).
* **Tax ID**, if you have one — it's printed on the invoice.

For accounting, you can **export your orders and subscriptions to CSV** from the
dashboard (full export or only records since your last export) and hand them to
your bookkeeper or import them into your accounting software. Each row includes
the amount, country, status, and payment reference.
