# Personal deadlines

> Each subscriber gets their own 72-hour offer that starts when they join, so evergreen funnels still feel like a launch.

A launch works because the offer ends. An evergreen funnel usually has no
real end: someone who joins today and someone who joined last month see the
same price forever.

A **personal deadline** gives every person their own window. Their clock
starts when they join your list (or claim a lead magnet, or enter an
automation), your emails count it down, and the product page and checkout
honour it. When their window closes, the offer is gone **for them**.

<Note>
  Personal deadlines are part of the **Pro** plan and above.
</Note>

## Set it up

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create a deadline">
    Go to **Deadlines → New deadline**. Pick a fixed-price product, the length
    of the window (72 hours by default) and the offer: a percentage off, an
    amount off, or a set price.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose what happens after">
    When the window ends the person pays **full price**, or a smaller
    **lasting discount** you set.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose what starts the clock">
    * **Joins your audience** — they subscribe from your creator page, a form or
      the API.
    * **Claims a lead magnet** — they get a free product you choose.
    * **Enters an automation** — they start an automation you choose.

    Someone who was already on your list starts their clock with the first
    email that mentions the deadline.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add the merge tags to your emails">
    | Merge tag | Becomes |
    | - | - |
    | `{{deadline:<id>}}` | `ends in 47 hours` |
    | `{{deadline_url:<id>}}` | Their personal link to the product |
    | `{{deadline_countdown:<id>}}` | A countdown block: *47 hours left — Ends Fri, Oct 18, 14:00 UTC* |

    The tags work in the subject line too: `Your offer {{deadline:<id>}}`.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## How the offer is enforced

The personal link carries a signed token that tells your store who the visitor
is. The product page then shows their own countdown and their price, and
checkout charges it.

* **Server-side.** The window, the price and whether the offer was used live
  on our servers. Clearing cookies or opening an old link never brings an
  expired offer back.
* **Once.** After someone buys at the offer price, the offer is used up.
* **Never restarts.** Joining again, claiming another lead magnet or a second
  trigger keeps the original end time.
* **Anonymous visitors** see your normal price.

Changing the length of a deadline only affects people whose clock starts after
the change. A set-price offer applies to the product's own price, not to its
variants; percentage and amount offers apply to variants too. Discount codes
still apply on top of the offer price.

## From the API

Create deadlines with `POST /personal-deadlines`, start someone's clock from
your own signup flow with `POST /personal-deadlines/{id}/start`, and get their
personal link with `GET /personal-deadlines/{id}/link`. See
[Unique coupons and personal deadlines](/api-reference/promotions).
