# Loyalty points and store credit

> Buyers earn points on every order and spend them on the next one. Brings repeat buyers back.

**Loyalty** gives buyers points on every paid order. Points turn into store
credit they can take off their next order at checkout — a reason to come back
to your store instead of buying somewhere else.

<Note>
  Loyalty is part of the **Growth** plan and above.
</Note>

    * **Smallest balance to spend** — optional; `0` lets buyers spend any
      balance.
    * **Points expire** — never, or a number of days after the buyer's last
      purchase (a new purchase restarts the clock).

## How buyers earn

A paid order earns `floor(amount paid × points per $1)` points. "Amount paid"
is what the buyer was charged for the products in your currency, **before
tax**, **after discounts** and **after store credit** — credit spent never
earns points. Order bumps count. Each payment of a payment plan earns on what
it charged. Free orders and subscriptions don't earn points.

## How buyers spend

On the thank-you page, the receipt email and their purchases page, buyers see
their balance and a link back to your store. At checkout, a returning buyer
sees **You have \$12.50 in store credit** and chooses **Use credit**.

* Credit comes off **after every discount**, like a payment. It never takes an
  order below **\$1.00**, the payments partner's minimum charge.
* The credit is priced by our server from the buyer's real balance — never by
  the browser.
* Your platform fee is charged on what the buyer actually pays.
* A balance can be used in one checkout at a time. A second checkout trying to
  spend the same balance is told it's in use, so credit is never spent twice.

<Info>
  Buyers don't need an account. The thank-you page, the receipt and the
  purchases page carry a private wallet link; the store remembers it in the
  buyer's browser. Typing an email at checkout never unlocks a balance.
</Info>

## Refunds and expiry

* A refunded order takes back the points it earned and **gives back** the
  credit it used.
* Expired points leave the balance (and your liability) automatically.

## What you owe

The top of the Loyalty page shows **Store credit owed** — every buyer's
spendable points valued as credit — plus members with points, credit redeemed
and orders paid with credit. The members list shows each buyer's balance;
**Adjust points** adds or removes points with a note (a balance never goes
below 0).

## Automate it

* API: `GET/PUT /loyalty`, `GET /loyalty/summary`, `GET /loyalty/members`,
  `GET /loyalty/ledger`, `POST /loyalty/members/adjust` — see the
  [endpoint reference](/api-reference/endpoints#loyalty).
* MCP: `get_loyalty_settings`, `update_loyalty_settings`,
  `get_loyalty_summary`, `list_loyalty_members`, `list_loyalty_activity`,
  `adjust_loyalty_points`.
* Webhook: [`loyalty.credit_redeemed`](/api-webhooks/events#loyalty-credit_redeemed).
* Orders carry `loyaltyCredit`, `loyaltyPointsRedeemed` and
  `loyaltyPointsEarned`.
